The SOS Panic Button is Mative's onboard emergency system that lets drivers and operators request immediate assistance with a dedicated button: once activated, it can call predefined emergency contacts, transmit the real-time GPS location, identify the vehicle and notify the operations center. It can interoperate with the infrastructures of the European Emergency Number 112 through "Where ARE U" services, extends to wearable Lone Worker devices, and has been adopted by AMAT Palermo, the public transport operator of Palermo.

In a public transport company, IoT sensors monitor fuel consumption, vehicle conditions, traffic and routes, and Machine Learning analyzes these data to forecast consumption, optimize routes and schedule maintenance. Mative's forecast for a company adopting its IoT and ML solutions estimates, after one year, 15% less fuel consumption, 20% lower operating costs, 25% better service punctuality and 10% savings on maintenance costs.

This article looks at three models: Zipcar, with hourly or daily rentals; Car2Go, focused on one-way trips with per-minute pricing; and Turo, a peer-to-peer marketplace connecting owners and renters.
